Postdoc, Topology of Motion Planning, London

We invite applications for the position of Postdoctoral Research Assistant on the EPSRC funded project “Topology of automated motion planning” led by Professor Michael Farber. The research will be conducted in coordination with a team from the University of Chicago led by Professor Shmuel Weinberger. We shall use topological tools (and in particular methods of cohomology theory) to analyse algorithms of making decisions in situations when the outcome is a choice made from a continuum of possibilities rather than from a discrete set of values. REU Spatial Models and Electoral Districting

The Spatial Models and Electoral Districting Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) site is seeking applications for its 2021 Summer program. Funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the REU is an 8-week summer research program located in Tacoma, Washington and will take place from June 20, 2021 through August 14, 2021.

This is a paid opportunity – participants receive a $575 a week stipend, housing, and one meal a day. There is additional funding for travel available.

The Spatial Models and Electoral Districting REU offers the opportunity for a diverse set of students to work collaboratively on a topic of immense societal and political importance – electoral districting in the United States. With the 2020 census, new electoral and representational districts will be drawn across the country and this program offers undergraduate students the opportunity to engage directly at the forefront of complex research questions and public communication of results. The REU sits at the intersection of math, CS, geography, and data science, and we encourage students with background in any of these fields to apply.

NOTE: One of the projects will have a mapper component again this summer, so computational topology students would be great, but math, CS, and data science students are also encouraged to apply (along with geography, GIS, and political science students).

At this time, the REU is planning to run in person for the summer of 2021; however, we will follow public health best practices and may run remotely as needed. If run remotely, the stipend will remain the same and all additional funding will be repurposed in direct support of students both during and after the REU’s completion.

Two TDA postdocs in Singapore

Postdoc Position on Topological data analysis (TDA) based machine learning at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

Two postdoc positions are available at the School of Physics and Mathematics, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore.

The annual salary will be about 60000-70000 SGD/year (dependent on previous qualifications and experience) with an additional performance bonus of up to 3 months (Income tax rate is ~4%).  The position will start at about May 2021. It will be 2 years and can be extended to 3 years. 

The research areas of the candidate should be on applied topology, computational topology, computational geometry, and machine learning. The ideal applicants should have good training on computation, algorithm design and modeling. Previous experience on molecular data analysis, chemical or biological modeling are preferred but not necessary.
